Background and Experience

With more than forty years experience in the field of water and wastewater utilities operation and management, Mr. Johnson recently retired after serving for nearly 20 years as Director of Public Utilities for the city of St. Petersburg, Florida. St. Petersburg operates the largest and oldest urban water reclamation system in the United States. He holds a degree in Public Administration and has attended hundreds of hours of wastewater treatment process theory and control training courses and seminars.

He is a certified Florida Class A Wastewater and Class B Water Plant Operator, and Ohio Class IV Wastewater and Class II Water Plant Operator. He taught wastewater treatment plant operation and management for seven years at Hillsborough Community College and has authored and presented numerous papers on wastewater treatment and process control, advanced treatment, and effluent reuse. He has served as an operation association officer in both Ohio and Florida, and is the recipient of several utilities profession awards, including recent recognition for his contributions to the State of Florida's water reclamation program.
